The Thomas Mitchell Group

The History of the Thomas Mitchell Group

The history of the Thomas Mitchell Group can be traced back to 1958 when it was formed by its eponymous founder, initially trading as building and public works contractors from premises in Kirkcaldy, Fife.

Clients for whom work has been carried out include Local Authority Departments, Property Services Agency, Ministry of Defence and Health Boards.

The manufacture of timber frame house kits commenced at the Thornton factory in 1968. With almost 7000 kits manufactured to date, our kits have been erected world wide from Shetland in the North, to the Falkland Islands in the South, from the hostile conditions of the Western Isles to the hottest climes of Cyprus in the Mediteranean in the East and Jamaica in the Carribean in the West.

From 1975 to the present time, the Thomas Mitchell Group of Companies has expanded its activities in the Private House building sector with developments throughout Fife, Lothian and Central Scotland.

The group is strong in its design and build capability and is constantly adding to an ever increasing list of successfully completed projects, including its Partnership Housing Division working in conjunction with Housing Associations, Community Scotland, Homes for Scotland and Local Authorities. Roadside restaurants, nursing homes, hotels, offices etc. are all carried out using our timber frame systems.
